The River Group Strengthens Senior Team with Three Prominent Female Hires!

The River Group is delighted to announce the appointment of three women to the company’s senior leadership team. This news comes alongside the announcement that River’s gender pay gap is an incredible -2% (mean hourly rate), demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to empowering women in the workplace.

River CEO Nicki Murphy states “as River continues to grow, I am delighted to have these talented women join River and am looking forward to seeing what we as a strong leadership group can achieve together.”

Helen Johnston will join River as the agency’s Content Director. Helen is an award-winning omni-channel editor and content marketeer with over 20 years experience in the industry. For nearly seven years Helen has been Content Director of the multi-faceted Tesco account at Cedar Communications, where she oversaw the strategic direction and production of all online, video, print and social media content. Prior to that Helen was a consultant for several other big brands working agency side. Helen was also the editor of Now Magazine, New Woman, Bliss and fashion glossy Distill Magazine. Helen was on the launch team of Grazia and previously edited The Daily Mail’s Self section. In addition, she was Deputy Editor of Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan.

Caron Stewart joins River as Business Development Director. Having worked on the media owner and client side as well as in agency roles Caron brings a wealth of experience and understanding in omni-channel marketing and a well-rounded view of the media landscape. From delivering a first in the market deal for The Telegraph and Marks and Spencer to multi-award winning campaigns for FMCG brands, with more recent stints at Time Inc. and News UK.

Caron says: “I am excited to be here amongst a passionate and talented team of people who really understand the power of great content and how to deliver it in the right place at the right time. With such great editorial credentials and channel expertise, I’m looking forward to leveraging River’s skills to drive the business forward.”

Another new hire is Rachel Middlewick, who is joining as River’s Strategy & Planning Director. Rachel has 20 years publishing and media experience, starting out in consumer marketing including international, newsstand and subscriptions, followed by 12 years agency side. Most recently she has been responsible for strategic pivots of consumer brands in diversifying markets for Haymarket.

On her new role, Rachel said “I can’t wait to join Nicki, Jackie and the River team to help unleash maximum opportunity for their (already fantastic) client brands and to bring new clients and revenue streams to the roster. Exciting times ahead!”
